Year 4 – 11+ Foundation

Year 4 is a key year in which the focus of the lessons shifts slightly from literacy and numeracy to reasoning and problem solving. This is the year in which the foundations for the 11+ will be built.

English and Maths will be covered and enhanced according to the National Curriculum Syllabus; Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning will be developed from Year 3 in accordance with the new CEM style 11+ examinations.

The sessions will be held in small groups with about 15 students. Every Saturday there will be a three hour session including breaks. Average teaching time will be two hours and fifteen minutes which includes a test session on the topics covered the previous week. The tests will be marked by the end of the session. Your children will develop advanced vocabulary work and creative writing skills during the larger group sessions to encourage discussion, while learning from peers. This allows your child to develop his/her writing skills to a high level within a supportive and fun environment. He/She will also be introduced to technique, timing and mock exam practice, within moderation.

Your child will be required to do homework which will be marked by the parents and the results should be reported back to us. Equal amounts of time will be dedicated to all the four subjects: English, Maths, Verbal and Non Verbal.

Feedback will be given at the end of every session, every week based on the tests. Regular progress reports will also be provided, giving a detailed description of your child’s weaknesses and strengths, including individual targets. This information will also be based the results of the homework reported back to us. Additional support will be given if required.

All the class books, mock exam papers, assessments, parent’s evenings, resources are included within the course fees.
